The Opportunity


Do you have a passion for student success? Canada’s largest provider of online student assessment and
school improvement tools, The Learning Bar, is looking for an individual to fill the position as a Chief Sales
Officer
in the Business Development Department, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This
challenging and rewarding job allows you to work at our newly renovated office space located in the heart
of downtown Fredericton. The beautiful heritage building is located next to Officer’s Square.

Job Purpose


As a member of The Learning Bar’s executive team, the Chief Sales Officer (CSO) is accountable and
responsible for the strategic direction, business development and overall results for the company’s
sales. The CSO provides leadership, drives results and revenue growth, and contributes to the
company’s goals. Our target for the next three years is to double our sales revenue and increase the
children’s lives we touch through our products by 20% each year.

Responsibilities:


As CSO and departmental lead, your daily activities are vast and include oversight of the day-to-day
creation and execution of global sales strategies. You seek information gathered by client services,
collaborate with marketing, and strategize with others while fostering a culture of accountability,
professional development, high performance, motivation, and success. You provide leadership,
mentorship, direction, and resources to the sales department staff (currently 3). Over time, you will
grow the sales team in quantity and quality while ensuring all team members are held accountable
for assigned targets and results.

As CSO, you will lead overall sales performance within the organization. You build an energized and
winning sales culture and will grow and develop a high-performing sales team to meet or exceed
revenue targets. You will develop the sales strategy, sales forecasts, conduct sales resource
planning, and develop sales budgets. You will continuously improve and strengthen existing sales
processes and tools, making recommendations to capture and use best sales practices. You will
establish and achieve sales and profit targets. When the need arises, you will support the business
development efforts in other regions.

As CSO, you plan and strategize. You will collaborate with other executive members to ensure
successful delivery of the business’s growth strategy in different geographies. You will develop
strong territory and account plans with sales and profits goals in line with the organization’s
strategic plan. You conduct market segmentation and competitive analysis to understand the
company’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT), Trends and unique value
propositions within the marketplaces TLB operates in and with strategic accounts. You come to
understand the relevant sales, legal and financial issues within the various countries we operate.
You will report regularly to the executive team on sales goals, targets, achievements, and forecasting.

As CSO, you will successfully oversee and manage the sales team’s tactical sales and business
development activities
. Not only will you develop proposals which reflect our unique value
proposition, brand style and corporate vision – you will monitor the quality, completeness, and
compliance of all proposals. You will also craft responses and communications to existing and
potential strategic business partners.

As CSO, you will travel for, and attend in-person, meetings with customers and partners as needed.

Skills & Qualificaitions:


We seek a person who naturally aligns with our vision to give all children the opportunity to thrive.
You have a degree in sales, marketing, or business administration. With over 10 years sales leadership
experience in a business-to-business, and a history of achieving sales and profit targets in Canada and
internationally, you come to this role with maturity, a desire and ability to take responsibility, and strong
experience with CRM solutions to improve customer service relationships, assist in customer retention
and drive sales growth. You will be given preference if you have US/international sales experience, or
experience within the Education or EdTech industry.

In previous roles, you will have effectively managed a team and multiple priorities. Your success is built
on your authentic approach, positive attitude, negotiation skills, and the ability to build and maintain
strong relationships. You have examples of how you demonstrated leadership and how you maintained
the right balance between empathy and focus. You have many success stories that describe your approach
to building and empowering a team; using a CRM to gain insights, focusing on accountability, generating
reports, analyzing data, and communicating effectively.

You bring to the role the ability to proficiently read, write and speak in more than one language (English
is required, French or Spanish a bonus). You effectively communicate via phone, email, in person, while
using PowerPoint, Word, Excel, or social media. You are self-motivated, with strong interpersonal skills,
and you work well with others. You have a valid passport and drivers license, and the ability and willingness
to travel. You are well organized.
