INSTRUCTIONAL LITERACY CONSULTANT – REMOTE (part-time in Canada)
This is a part-time fixed term contract position. Hourly rate will be in the range of $50 to $65.

The Learning Bar is seeking an Instructional Literacy Consultant who will support the Client Services team, reporting to the Program Manager. This contract position is part time and requires occasional travel throughout the school year.
THE POSITION
This assignment will appeal to individuals who want to share their expertise in the field of education and will support educators using The Learning Bar’s Confident Learners program. Instructional Literacy Consultants provide ongoing coaching support and professional learning focusing on early reading skills and instructional practices for schools implementing the Confident Learners literacy program in Canada. Consultants must be passionate about collaborating with educators to ensure their students are successful readers.
Once you have a full understanding of the Confident Learners product line, your goal is to build expertise and maintain knowledge of the program components and associated professional learning courses. With this, you will provide regular, ongoing support to clients through specialized instruction focused on increasing student reading success. Working with school staff and administrators, you will provide weekly support to educators by facilitating as they engage in their Professional Learning Community (PLC), as well as regular check-in calls or virtual meetings with school staff. You will provide expertise on assessment-informed instruction and practices and analyze and report on student literacy data. Your success is measured by our clients’ success.
You will attend regular touchpoint meetings to share best practices and ensure they are utilized when delivering services to clients. Instructional Literacy Consultants typically support 3 or more schools directly as their assigned coach, and support program delivery more generally for all schools in the program by co-facilitating ongoing professional learning activities. Every month, you will participate in leadership development activities led by our Leadership Consultant to maintain alignment with school leaders. In addition, you will spend time on internal professional development, planning and preparation, and other internal meetings as required.
Occasional travel will be required to deliver in-person workshops or training. Typically, you will model instructional strategies and provide direct, 1-on-1 support to educators. Travel is usually one full week in duration, plus any necessary travel days, and anticipated to occur twice during the school year. This includes travel to remote locations – key geographic locations of travel include Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northern Ontario.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
This part-time contract position requires a commitment to work a minimum 10 hours per week. You can start immediately to complete the training and assume full duties in the new school year.
You have a bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited post-secondary institution, and at least 5 years teaching experience teaching at the K-5 level in a Canadian school. With a strong grasp of the science of reading and instructional best practices, you will provide support and instruction to educators using Confident Learners. You are experienced in delivering hybrid and online support. Ideally, you are outcomes-driven, and are an experienced instructor of professional adult learning programs. Preference will be given to those who have previously held a position of leadership and/or administration within a K-12 school. This position will appeal to you if you are eager to apply a solution-oriented approach: meeting teachers (who are currently in the classroom) where they are now.
You are a reliable, servant leader with intermediate computer skills, and the ability to listen to others to understand needs, answer questions, resolve complaints, and ensure satisfaction. You demonstrate high emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills, which allows you to build strong relationships and create a positive work environment. Previous experience providing coaching to other educators is an asset.
You are collaborative by nature and seek the opportunity to help others solve problems. When business needs dictate, you will provide support to other team members who may be preparing for virtual Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings or in-person school visits.
Your success can be linked to your ‘can do’ attitude, excellent written and verbal communications skills in English, and ability to adapt to changing situations and learn new skills or technologies quickly. You are flexible, enthusiastic, and have a strong desire to help others.
