As Canada’s largest provider of online student assessment and school improvement tools, The Learning Bar is seeking our next Intermediate Developer in the Technology Department, reporting to the Development Director.

As a member of The Learning Bar’s technology team, you code, test, and implement a variety of applications for current and upcoming product lines at the company and assists with technology-based tasks. Primary duties will focus on ensuring the company effectively meets contractual obligations, related to one of our key products.  Additional activities will be in support of all aspects of development of all products. The developer understands frameworks being used to program in product development and will perform coding and testing activities as directed by key personnel.

Some of the work you will do within the development team includes the maintenance of web applications which include database integration. You will be responsible for the completion of quality development tasks, and the creation and maintenance of technical project documentation including detailed software design.

In collaboration with internal stakeholders, you will analyze, define and document business requirements for approved improvement initiatives. Your focus on excellence will be challenged as you research and evaluate of recommendations for enhancements to our products. You will support the Business Systems function when investigating technical solutions; and when configuring and integrating existing technologies. As a member of the team, you will aid internal stakeholders by providing documentation, support and guidance, training and coaching as needed.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE


For the past 2 years, you have been designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining web applications. Since graduating from a Computer Science or Engineering program, your experience has included coding in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Your expert knowledge of UI/UX will serve you well as you manage the challenging tasks on your plate.

Your strong understanding of web application development, including application design, session management, performance, accessibility, and internationalization has prepared you for this role. You understand how to apply Responsive Web Design in your work and have managed software configurations with Git/Bitbucket or similar technology. You are at ease when analyzing and designing object-oriented software, and seek ways to improve your overall knowledge and skillset.

Giving all children the opportunity to thrive.
You understand cloud-native development, specifically using AWS, and you are proficient in using development toolsets for Windows and/or Linux (including Visual Studio, Eclipse, or similar). Full stack design is interesting to you, and you seek ways to apply your skills and knowledge in deployment orchestration and automation.

Additionally, we seek a candidate with:

  • Hands-on experience in designing and developing web services using API Protocols and Data Formats (REST, JSON, SOAP and XML).
  • Familiarity and experience with Typescript / ES6 / angular 11
  • Working knowledge of RESTful web services
  • Experience in JavaScript Frameworks and APIs (React, Flux, Angular, Bootstrap)
  • Experience building microservices using NodeJS, Python or similar
  • Knowledge of relational database design and SQL
  • Php experience nice to have
  • An up-to-date Criminal Record Check
