Build Capacity, Enhance Skills, Transform Instruction

The Learning Bar provides three advanced professional learning courses. All courses are grounded in key evidence from academic research, linked to proven and practical classroom strategies, and connected to leading-edge educational policy, assessment, and governance strategies. Courses include:

  • Systematic Reading Instruction:
Designed to complement and build on educators’ existing teaching strategies, Systematic Reading Instruction will increase educators’ knowledge about the science of reading and teaching, and equip them with the teaching strategies and resources to teach a systematic reading instruction program.
  • The Science of Teaching:
Educators will gain a deeper understanding and a broader range of classroom teaching skills. They will know how to better engage students in learning and achieve learning goals, even for the most challenging students.
  • The Science of Assessment:
Educators learn how to analyze student, classroom, and school data to inform classroom practice and all aspects of school climate.

The team has created the course content at The Learning Bar and Dr. Doug Willms, the former president of the International Academy of Education who held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Literacy and Human Development for 14 years.

The coursework has been developed based on the research of John Hattie and is highly relevant to Australian school pedagogy. All our experts have extensive knowledge and a deep passion for student learning.
